This is the epitome of Artisanal denim.  This is completely natural, from the dyes to the cotton yarns no chemicals were used, no electricity and no use of depletable resources were used in making this denim. We call it the Trifecta Denim because of three extremely special characteristics.

Khadi Spun-the Yarns are hand spun on a spinning wheel called a Charka Wheel like Gandhi used to use. This ancient traditional way of spinning yarns creates a very unique slubby character in the denim since the yarns are thick and thin in places not perfect like modern spinning.

Hand loomed- The denim is hand woven in a village called Siddhasar on primitive looking looms out of their homes that require no electricity. This is a very slow and labor some process creating a loose weave with lots of texture and character.

Hank Dyed natural plant dyed indigo- The yarns are dyed in a small village in Western India called Bagasara, where the Khatri family has been hand dying natural indigo for generations. The leaves of the Indigofera Plant are fermented in a large pot creating a living dye which must be fed and will eventually die from use.  You can see they take the yarn skeins and dip in the indigo baths and hand twist to get the indigo to penetrate the cotton yarns deeply. This creates a variance in shade in the color of the yarn and in the warp(face of the denim) which gives it a variegated grain of different shades of indigo. The color of this natural indigo is a brilliant blue that is indescribable and can only be truly appreciated in person and natural light.

Please note that the Khadi Spun hand loomed denim has minor flaws and inconsistencies that we find makes it so special. Each pair is completely unique and some may have varied colored yarns creating slight tonal striping due to the yarns taking varying shades of indigo. Again this is a characteristic we find special and would refer to it as Wabi-sabi. A Japanese word that means, the aesthetic is described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete".  If you are obsessive and slightly anal about imperfections I would say these are not for you. We have painstakingly gone thru dozens of 11 meter rolls to pick out the best and have inspected each garment to make sure it is acceptable to our standards. We have less then 50 pieces of this beautiful and incredibly unique denim jeans so please do not hesitate to purchase if you are drawn to them. Promise you the most softest denim you will have ever worn!
